The KFC QLD Breakers club is a National Water Polo League(NWPL) club for senior elite male and female players.

The club is one of 12 men's and 12 women's teams from across Australia that competes in the NWPL held yearly, January through to May.

From this national competition, players are selected for the Australian senior national squads. In 2008, the KFC QLD Breakers club was one of the most successful clubs in the NWPL with 6 club members named in the 2008 Olympic Men's and Women's teams.

They were:

Men:        Rafael Sterk (Olympian 2000, 2004), Pietro Figlioli (Olympian 2004) and Anthony Martin(Olympic debutant)
Women: Suzie Fraser, Amy Hetzel and Bronwen Knox [All Olympic debutants]

The Australian women's team won the Bronze medal with Bronwen Knox named in the 2008 Olympic Media Allstar team, the only Australian player named in this team.

The club also supports junior water polo in Sth East Queensland.

We host:

  1. the Nugget Cup at our Saturday home game nights as a curtain raiser to the national league games for junior players aged 17 years and under;
  2. we send junior teams to National Junior Club Championships where we have had some success. Our Breakers boys team won Gold at the 2006 U18 National Club championships and silver at the 2005 Inaugural U18 Club Championships; and,
  3. the club holds junior player skills training sessions throughout the year.

The club has forged links with a number of junior clubs: Warriers, Sunshine Coast Water Polo Assoc., River City and Nth Brisbane Polo Bears and various schools who participate in the Brisbane Water Polo Competition held durng the summer months.

Our Junior Breaker program provides a pathway for our junior players to become members of our elite senior squads of the future. In our 2009 senior squads, 50% of these players have come through our pathway program, since the club's inception in 2003.
